Under Floor Heating

UFH Fundamentals

Wavin UFH has a fundamental understanding of UFH. Using this knowledge it has pioneered technological advancements within the industry, engineering new products and gaining the specialist experience required to produce an efficient heating within a multitude of floor constructions.

Save Energy By Using UFH

By comparison with radiator heating UFH can reduce energy requirements while maintaining the same comfort level. Its compatibility with low temperature water allows full advantage to be made of modern condensing boilers, and makes the use of heat pumps more beneficial.

Floor Finishes

Similarly to the different floor constructions available, different floor finishes produce heating systems with different characteristics. They reduce or expand the useable range of water temperatures for any given system and therefore can affect the maximum heat output.

Most of the current popular floor finishes work very well with UFH and if chosen with the UFH in mind can greatly enhance the performance of the heating system.

There are very few floor finishes that cannot be used with underfloor heating if installed and correctly. If you plan to use any floor finish which does not fit into one of the following categories please contact Wavin UFH to discuss its application.

How UFH Works

UFH operates at lower temperatures than conventional forms of heating and is still able to heat areas comfortably. It achieves this by heating a much larger surface area which in turn provides the capability to create an overall much more efficient heating system, this enables savings to be made on running costs and eliminates dependency on the diminishing reserves of fossil fuels.

Underfloor Heating Controls - Making the Right Choice

Water underfloor heating has become a firm favourite for those undertaking new build projects, and the benefits are clear.

  • No radiators, wall space is freed up
  • Even heat, no dead spots
  • Operates at a much lower temperature therefore reduced running costs

Understanding the heating control options
Deciding on whether to have underfloor heating installed is one thing, but deciding on how you will control the system is another important decision. Let's think for a moment how it would be to have a single light switch for the entire house - it really doesn't make sense does it? However, until recently, a single heating control would have been accepted.

Zoning the Heating System
Underfloor heating lends itself to being zoned, dividing areas of your home into separate circuits that can be controlled differently. The more zones you have, the more underfloor heating controls you will need.
